Ten Joined Cubes (The 4 Number Operations)

1
We make a stick of ten joined cubes.
We get four more and join them to it.
Then we count on from where we were:
Ten plus four more:  that equals fourteen.

We can do addition with the cubes and write it.
We can use the cubes and
write down ten plus four equals fourteen.  (10 + 4 = 14)
Yes it does.  Yes it does.  Yes it does.  Yes it does.

2
We make a stick of ten joined cubes.
We take off one and count the cubes left.
We count that there are nine cubes left:
Ten minus one is what we just did.

We can do subtraction with the cubes and write it.
We can use the cubes and write ten minus one equals nine.  (10 − 1 = 9)
Yes it does.  Yes it does.  Yes it does.  Yes it does.

3
We make a stick of ten joined cubes.
We make two more sticks, each with ten in.
We see our three lots of joined cubes
and understand three tens are thirty:

Do multiplication with the cubes and write it.
We can use the cubes and
write down three times ten equals thirty.  (3 × 10 = 30)
Yes it does.  Yes it does.  Yes it does.  Yes it does.

4
We make a stick of ten joined cubes.
We break that stick in two:  make two fives.
We see that ten divided by two
gives us the answer five - we see it!

We can do division with the cubes and write it:
use the cubes and write that ten divided by two equals five.  (10 ÷ 2 = 5)
Yes it does.  Yes it does.  Yes it does.  Yes it does.

Cubes help do addition.
Cubes help do subtraction
and multiplication.
Cubes can help us do division, too.
